Gallipoli: The First Day
http://www.abc.net.au/gallipoli

(We have made the link unclickable to prevent inadvertent selection.)

Copy and paste the above link AFTER you have read the following information and considered whether your computer can handle the website.
From the ABC: "You'll be able to explore both Anzac and Ottoman perspectives alike, and examine in detail the experiences of individual soldiers throughout the day, as well as the military technology of the time." Includes a special layer using Google Earth.

Requires the latest Flash 10 plug-in. Recommended: ADSL2+ internet connection, 2GB RAM. Advice to teachers: make sure the program works on your classroom computers BEFORE the lesson (it may cause the web browser on many school computers to lock up). Also read the help page.
Take the "Quick Tour" first to be able to get the most out of the site. Note that use of much of the site depends on information that is provided only by spoken words.

REFERENCING

Students doing research projects need to provide website references as part of their assignment

The easiest way is to use an online citation tool such as the Landmarks Citation Machine.

There are different referencing or citation styles: see Which referencing style should I use? (ANU).

Examples of web pages dealing with referencing or citing websites are:

DISPLAY OF LINKS

The full url of each link is displayed. This is to make it easy for:

- teachers to copy and paste both the web page title and the url into worksheets they produce. (Students working from printed handouts thereby have the url in front of them if they need to type it.)

- students to make judgments about the sources of their information through being able to examine each url closely.

Is this a good idea, or not? Feedback and suggestions are appreciated. See box below.

Links to sites that appear to be no longer operating have been removed.

Feedback is very helpful - just type a comment or suggestion in the following box, then click 'Submit'.
(If you are asking a question, please include your email address.)
Suggestions of new web pages you have seen or of corrections are most welcome.
